    التاريخ: 2024/02/28

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, participated in the opening of the 47th session of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers, held on 28 February, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States.

Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, highlighted in Mr. Aboul Gheit's speech at the 47th session of the Council of Arab Youth and Sports Ministers the condemnation of the ongoing Israeli aggression in Gaza. Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed concern over the high casualties among children, journalists, and United Nations workers, surpassing figures from other contemporary conflicts. This situation, according to Mr. Aboul Gheit, underscores the brutality of the occupation, its violation of fundamental principles of humanity and morality, and reveals a significant crisis of conscience within the international community, which appears powerless to halt these crimes.

In his remarks, the Secretary-General emphasised the significance of the Council's diverse youth activities, targeting the development of skills, capacity-building, and the fostering of a culture of understanding and dialogue among Arab youth. These activities are designed to address crucial issues such as peace and security, sustainable development, economic and social empowerment, and entrepreneurship, reflecting the Council's commitment to supporting the holistic growth and engagement of the Arab youth.

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit lauded the Arab Strategy for Youth, Peace, and Security during his speech, hailing its adoption by the Council in a special session on 19 September 2023. This groundbreaking document at the regional level serves as a roadmap for implementing the youth, peace, and security agenda, aligned with relevant Security Council resolutions in the Arab region.
