Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries opens health training programme in Rwanda

​In cooperation with the African-Middle Eastern Society of Gastroenterology, in coordination with the Rwandan Society of Gastroenterology, and in partnership with the Egyptian-African Society for Cardiology and Research and the Friends of the Heart Institute, the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries (AFTA) launched a training programme for gastroenterologists and cardiologists at King Faisal Hospital in Kigali, Rwanda. The programme is being held from 26 to 29 August.

General Secretariat participates in 7th China-Arab States Expo

​In support of Arab-African cooperation, His Excellency Ambassador Mohannad Saleh Lajouzi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Director-General of the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries, held an extended working session with His Excellency Nasser Mazrui, Minister of Health of Zanzibar. The meeting took place on the sidelines of Ambassador Lajouzi's visit to the United Republic of Tanzania to oversee training courses for Tanzanian medical personnel.

General Secretariat convenes 16th meeting of Electricity Experts Committee

​At the invitation of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Energy Department), the 16th meeting of the Electricity Experts Committee is being held on 27 August at the headquarters of the General Secretariat, with the participation of electricity experts from member states. The agenda meant to be discussed includes the Arab Common Electricity Market and the peaceful uses of atomic energy.

President of Zanzibar receives Director-General of the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries

​His Excellency Dr. Hussein Ali Mwinyi, President of Zanzibar, received today at his palace His Excellency Ambassador Mohannad Saleh Lajouzi, Assistant Secretary-General of the League of Arab States and Director-General of the Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries, along with his accompanying delegation. The visit formed part of the delegation's official mission to the United Republic of Tanzania and was linked to the ongoing medical training programme conducted in cooperation with the Egyptian-African Society of Cardiology and Research and the Friends of the Heart Institute. The programme involves the participation of a select group of physicians supervising activities in both Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar.

Aboul Gheit denounces Israeli massacres in Gaza, demands international community to break shameful silence on killing journalists and spread of famine

​Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned in the strongest terms the ongoing Israeli air strikes on the Gaza Strip, including the recent massacre at the Nasser Medical Complex, which claimed the lives of 20 people, among them five journalists.

League Secretary-General welcomes UN roadmap for Libya

​The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, welcomed the political roadmap presented by Ms. Hanna Tetteh, head of the United Nations Support Mission in Libya (UNSMIL), during her briefing to the Security Council on 21 August. The roadmap is designed to pave the way for the unification of Libyan institutions and the holding of presidential and legislative elections.
