    التاريخ: 2023/10/15

Upon the invitation of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, and the generous hosting by the Ministry of Justice of the Republic of Iraq, the Council of Arab Ministers of Justice will convene its 72nd Executive Office meeting, presided over by the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, on 15 October.

The 39th session of the Council will be held on 16 October under the leadership of the Minister of Justice of the Republic of Iraq.

This session's significance is underscored by the pressing challenges facing the Arab region across multiple fronts. These challenges emphasise the need to enhance the framework of collaborative Arab judicial efforts and to bolster and activate mechanisms of justice. The esteemed council is expected to shoulder its responsibilities in countering the threats and consequences that loom over the Arab region, particularly in the realms of combating organised crime and the scourge of terrorism. Furthermore, it provides an opportunity to reinforce commitments towards augmenting Arab and international cooperation within the legal and judicial domains.

During its 39th session, the Council will deliberate on the operationalisation of Arab agreements related to counterterrorism, such as the Arab Convention to Combat Terrorism and its implementation framework, the Arab Convention to Combat Money Laundering and the Financing of Terrorism, as well as the League of Arab States Convention to Counter Information Technology Crimes.

The session will also explore opportunities to strengthen Arab and international cooperation in the fight against terrorism. This is in addition to evaluating progress in implementing decisions pertaining to the Arab Convention against Corruption, the draft Arab Convention on the Status of Refugees in Arab Nations, the draft Arab Convention on the Protection of Personal Data, a draft Arab legislation against hate speech, a draft Arab legislation for the protection and assistance of internally displaced persons in Arab countries, and a draft unified Arab model law for narcotic drugs and psychotropic substances. The session will further present new initiatives aimed at advancing the development and activation of the Arab legal and judicial framework.

The Ministers of Justice from Arab countries will participate in the 39th session. Additionally, the General Secretariat of the Council of Arab Interior Ministers, the Cooperation Council for the Arab Gulf States, and Naif Arab University for Security Sciences will participate as observers.
