  • General Secretariat statement on Israeli Minister of National Security's leadership of settler incursions into Al-Aqsa Mosque
    التاريخ: 2023/07/27

The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States strongly condemns the forceful entry of a significant number of colonial settlers, led by two ministers from the Israeli government, Itamar Ben Gvir and Yitzhak Wasserlaf, into the revered Al-Aqsa Mosque on the morning of 27 July. This intrusion was carried out under tight security provided by the Israeli occupation police, and it involved the observance of Talmudic rituals and prayers in the mosque's courtyards. Additionally, the authorities of occupation confiscated the keys to the Dome of the Rock Mosque.

The General Secretariat firmly asserts that the repeated incursions into the Al-Aqsa Mosque by Israeli government officials and colonial settlers not only inflame the sentiments of Muslims worldwide but also constitute a blatant violation of international agreements and laws. These actions are part of the systematic strategy pursued by the occupation government to alter the existing legal and historical status of the sacred Al-Aqsa Mosque.

This strategy aims to impose a policy of temporal and spatial division, and it warrants a grave concern for the potential consequences. The General Secretariat warns of the perilous and reprehensible nature of such incursions, which risk plunging the region into a religious conflict. The Israeli occupation authorities bear full responsibility for the ramifications of these assaults and their potential impact on the region's peace and stability.

Furthermore, the General Secretariat highlights that this incursion is part of an escalating pattern of Israeli attacks against the Palestinian people, their assets, and their revered sites.

The most recent examples of these attacks include the extrajudicial killing of four young men in Nablus and Al-Ain camp, as well as the tragic death of Faris Abu Samra, a 14-year-old child, in Qalqilya. The General Secretariat urgently calls upon the international community, encompassing nations and institutions, to promptly intervene and put an end to this ongoing aggression. It is imperative to ensure the safeguarding of the Palestinian people and to hold Israel and its officials accountable for these heinous acts. The General Secretariat emphasises the necessity of treating Israel without any double standards, subjecting it to the same rule of law as other nations. This approach is crucial to prevent further transgressions and crimes.
