  • Aboul Gheit urges Arab-European cooperation to address common challenges

    Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received on 30 March the leaders of European Union missions in the Middle East and North Africa, along with several officials from the European Union's external work apparatus, at the headquarters of the General Secretariat.

    Gamal Roshdy, the spokesman for the Secretary-General, has stated that during the meeting, Mr. Aboul Gheit discussed several issues of common interest, including recent regional and international developments, particularly in the Middle East. He also discussed the impact of the conflict in Ukraine on the region, and the Arab countries' stance towards these issues.

    The two sides also explored ways to strengthen and develop institutional relations between Arab and European countries. The European Union ambassadors expressed their interest in hearing the Secretary-General's vision on the recent developments in the Palestinian cause, particularly the Israeli escalation and the campaign of repression and abuse by the occupation army in the West Bank cities.

    The European ambassadors expressed their interest in the progression of Arab crises, particularly in Syria and Libya. The League of Arab States' spokesperson also stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit apprised the European Union ambassadors about forthcoming developments pertaining to collaborative Arab initiatives in the upcoming phase, notably with the imminent occurrence of the Arab Summit in Riyadh. Additionally, he attentively received the perspectives and evaluations of European officials regarding the advancement of Arab-European relations.
