Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received Hu Heping, the Minister of Culture and Tourism of the People's Republic of China on 4 April during his visit to Egypt to hold a joint Arab-Chinese art exhibition that opened the previous day.
The official spokesman for the Secretary-General, Gamal Roshdy, stated that Aboul Gheit welcomed the Chinese minister and the accompanying delegation, expressing his appreciation for the fruitful cooperation existing between the Arab and Chinese sides in various fields, particularly in the field of culture. The Secretary-General also suggested organising joint workshops on marketing and promoting Arab-Chinese cultural products, as well as mutual translation and dissemination of Arabic and Chinese books to facilitate learning about each other's cultures.
According to the official spokesman for the Secretary-General, during the meeting between Aboul Gheit and Hu Heping, League's Secretary-General emphasised the importance of increasing mutual visits of Arab and Chinese artists and creators to gain new experiences and technologies in the field of cultural industries. He also stressed the need to build the capacities of stakeholders in Arab countries.
Roshdy added that the Chinese minister touched on the first Arab-Chinese summit held last December and stressed the importance of following up on the implementation of its outputs, including issues related to cultural cooperation and dialogue between civilisations. He also emphasised the importance of cooperation in organising the workshop proposed by the Secretary-General on marketing Arab-Chinese cultural products.
