Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received Mr. Abdullah Al-Lafi, Vice President of the Libyan Presidential Council, and his delegation on 24 May 2023. During their meeting, the parties engaged in a constructive and informative exchange of views on the latest developments in the Libyan arena.
The official spokesman for the Secretary-General Gamal Roshdy said Mr. Al-Lafi delivered a comprehensive overview of the political process in Libya, highlighting the Council's ongoing efforts to bring about national reconciliation and outlining the next steps towards this objective.
Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed the League's unwavering support for all initiatives aimed at advancing national reconciliation and promoting the political process, with the ultimate goal of safeguarding Libya's unity, ensuring its security and stability, ending the presence of foreign military forces, and integrating armed militias.
Roshdy added Secretary-General Aboul Gheit welcomed Mr. Al-Lafi's endorsement of the League's pivotal role in supporting Libya's national reconciliation and facilitating the completion of the political process, culminating in the conduct of free and fair national elections that would usher in a new era of lasting stability and prosperity for the country.
