A delegation from the General Secretariat (Media and Communication Sector), headed by Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Media and Communication Sector, and including Minister Plenipotentiary Nassima Shrit, Director of the Media Department, is participating in the 45th session of the General Assembly of the Arab States Broadcasting Union (ASBU), scheduled to be held on 16–17 December in Tunis.
Ambassador Khattabi stated that the General Secretariat’s participation in these meetings reflects its ongoing commitment to coordination and cooperation with the various professional unions and organisations operating under its umbrella, including ASBU, which seeks to promote Arab cooperation in the audiovisual field, facilitate exchanges, and provide technical services among member states.
The Ambassador stated that the selection of the two topics for professional dialogue on the session’s agenda demonstrates a commitment to media development, with a primary focus on youth and innovation, as well as media and artificial intelligence. He noted the growing interest of specialists and media professionals in these areas and their pursuit of opportunities to employ modern technologies in media in order to enhance the quality and competitiveness of media production.
Ambassador Khattabi added that building a modern media system capable of contributing to the achievement of societies’ aspirations for sustainable development requires concerted efforts among Arab media institutions, particularly through investment in knowledge and the development of training curricula that keep pace with the latest technologies and professional practices. He noted that the League of Arab States has adopted the Arab Strategy for Artificial Intelligence, and that the most recent Arab Development Summit, held in Baghdad in May 2025, adopted the Arab Initiative for Artificial Intelligence.
