Under the auspices of the League of Arab States, the 15th International Conference of the Arab Union for Sustainable Development and the Environment commenced on 7 December at the League’s headquarters in Cairo. The conference, held under the theme “Sustainable Development and the Future of Generations,” was inaugurated with keynote addresses by Dr. Raed Al-Jabouri, Minister Plenipotentiary and Director of the Department of Arab Organisations and Federations at the League of Arab States, and Dr. Ashraf Abdel Aziz, Secretary-General of the Union and Chair of the Conference. The event witnessed wide participation from experts, officials, and representatives of Arab institutions engaged in environmental and development issues.
This year’s conference centres on one of the most pressing topics in sustainable development: reinforcing the link between the needs of current generations and the rights of future generations. This focus is particularly significant in light of the global expansion in implementing the United Nations Sustainable Development Goals 2030, the imperative to support innovation and the use of safe and sustainable technologies, and the importance of fostering family and child welfare while empowering Arab innovators and creators.
The five-day conference, jointly organised with Al-Zaytuna University in Libya, seeks to advance Arab and Arab-international cooperation in sustainable development, raise environmental awareness, and highlight the role of family media in cultivating sustainable community awareness. It also aims to support innovation and environmentally friendly entrepreneurship, address digital risks and methods for protecting families, demonstrate the role of technology in building a sustainable future, establish strategic partnerships that promote development and environmental protection, and support innovators and entrepreneurs in transforming ideas into viable projects. These objectives will be pursued through discussions on several key themes during the conference sessions, including:
