  • Aboul Gheit meets with Chinese Foreign Minister during his official visit to China

    The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit met on 18 November in Beijing with Wang Yi, Minister of Foreign Affairs and member of the Political Bureau of the Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, at the Great Hall of the People during his official visit to the People’s Republic of China.

    Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, stated that at the outset of the meeting, Mr. Aboul Gheit congratulated the Chinese minister on the successful conclusion of the Fourth Plenary Session of the 20th Central Committee of the Communist Party of China, during which the Fifteenth Five-Year Plan for China’s Economic and Social Development was adopted. He conveyed his best wishes for the plan’s success.

    The spokesperson added that Mr. Aboul Gheit stressed during his meeting with the Chinese minister the depth and strength of the historical relations between China and the Arab world—relations long marked by mutual respect, trust, and reciprocal support on issues of common concern, grounded in the principles of justice and international law. He noted the steady development of Arab-Chinese relations since the establishment of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum in 2004.

    The spokesperson further stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed appreciation for the “Global Governance Initiative” recently announced by Chinese President Xi Jinping, an initiative aimed at addressing shortcomings in the global system and one that has drawn significant interest from Arab states. He underscored the importance of considering this initiative in light of its expected contribution to strengthening global peace and development.

    On another note, the spokesperson said that the Chinese minister affirmed his country’s strong interest in hosting the second Arab-Chinese Summit, scheduled for May 2026. He affirmed that it will be a historic and successful summit, chaired by President Xi Jinping with the participation of Arab leaders, and noted that China will work closely with the League of Arab States to ensure its success.
