His Excellency Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Media and Communication Sector, participated in a dialogue session titled "Gaza: Coverage Continues," held as part of the third edition of the Egypt Media Forum. His Excellency said that, given the close link between political and media work, Arab and international media outlets must keep pace with the political momentum generated by the Sharm El-Sheikh Peace Summit. This momentum seeks to prioritise peace and diplomatic dialogue to consolidate the ceasefire and strengthen international support for the Palestinian cause. He noted that the most significant achievement lies in thwarting the displacement plan, which resulted from coordinated Arab action at various levels, particularly by regional actors, in accordance with the resolutions of Arab and Islamic summits and international legal frameworks, with the ultimate goal of achieving a just, lasting, and sustainable solution based on the two-state framework.
He also stressed the importance of supporting Palestinian media, noting that this unequal war has revealed that journalists and media professionals are among its most affected victims. He referred to the decision of the Council of Arab Information Ministers to designate 11 May of each year as the International Day of Solidarity with Palestinian Media, underscoring the necessity of ensuring their protection during armed conflicts and preventing their targeting as civilians, in accordance with international humanitarian law, particularly Article 79 of the Additional Protocol to the Geneva Conventions.
