As part of efforts to strengthen cooperation and partnership between the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States and Chinese academic institutions, a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) was signed between the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Social Affairs Sector – Department of Education and Scientific Research) and Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications on 3 November at the General Secretariat’s headquarters in Cairo.
Ms. Enas El-Fergany, Minister Plenipotentiary and head of the Social Affairs Sector, signed the MoU on behalf of the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States, while Professor Xu Mei, President of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, signed on behalf of the university.
The MoU covers several areas of cooperation, including the organisation of an Arab-Chinese Forum on Digital Policies, short-term training programmes in information and communication technology at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States for students of Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, and short-term training programmes on Chinese culture, the Chinese language, and digital literacy for staff of the League of Arab States. It also encompasses activities related to artificial intelligence and scientific research.
It is noteworthy that Beijing University of Posts and Telecommunications, founded in 1955, operates under the direct supervision of the Chinese Ministry of Education. It is a multidisciplinary, research-oriented university with a focus on engineering and science, and is particularly distinguished for its specialisation in information technology.
