  • Aboul Gheit meets with President of Lebanese Republic
    Date: 28/10/2025

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, met with His Excellency General Joseph Aoun, President of the Lebanese Republic, on 28 October as part of his official visit to Beirut.

The Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, Gamal Roshdy, stated that the meeting addressed developments in Lebanon and the region. Mr. Aboul Gheit reaffirmed the League of Arab States' steadfast support for Lebanon and, in line with the resolutions of the League Council, its support for the Lebanese government’s efforts to strengthen national sovereignty and achieve the monopoly of arms by the state. In this context, he stressed the need for influential actors in the international community, led by the United States, to exert pressure on Israel to immediately end its occupation of all Lebanese territories and to cease its ongoing violations of Lebanon’s sovereignty. He noted that the full and precise implementation of the ceasefire agreement reached last November remains the only path to restoring peace throughout Lebanon.

Roshdy added that the meeting also discussed the situation in Palestine, particularly in the Gaza Strip. Mr. Aboul Gheit explained that the Sharm El-Sheikh agreement marks the beginning of a process aimed at halting the bloodshed, restoring normal life, rebuilding Gaza, and paving the way for an irreversible path towards the establishment of a Palestinian state. He underscored the importance of building on the current momentum to advance settlements and promote peace across the region.
