The current developments in the Middle East, particularly in light of the positions expressed before the United Nations General Assembly in support of the international declaration on the two-state solution, and the meeting of the Security Council following the Israeli attack on Qatar, reflect the growing isolation of Israel within the international community.
After nearly two years of the war on the Gaza Strip and its catastrophic repercussions, the world has come to recognize truths that the false Israeli narrative had for long sought to obscure following the events of 7 October. The vote in the General Assembly in favour of this international declaration carries both political and moral symbolism, embodying a clear collective will to support the Palestinian cause in accordance with established references and defined pathways.
The overwhelming endorsement of this resolution, welcomed by the League of Arab States, constitutes a diplomatic achievement of profound significance and a concrete, forward-looking step by the international community towards ending the war on the Gaza Strip and halting acts of genocide, starvation, humiliation, displacement, and forced exile.
After eight decades of oppression of the Palestinian people and systematic attempts to erase their national identity—reaching an intolerable peak with the grave Nakba endured by the Gaza Strip, alongside recurring incursions and settlement schemes in the West Bank—the moment of decision has struck. Without further delay, this people must be enabled to establish their independent state and to secure a sustainable resolution of the conflict on the basis of the two-state solution, free from the follies of extremist ideologies, expansionist ambitions, and antiquated myths that remain willfully blind to international norms, rules, and traditions, as well as to the immutable truths of history.
The Gaza Strip, which Israel has turned into a graveyard for thousands of innocents, must not likewise become a graveyard for international and humanitarian law, whose credibility has eroded and now stands in jeopardy as a result of this heinous war. Accordingly, the historic session of the General Assembly must be translated into concrete action through the engagement of all international actors.
The international support expressed for the State of Qatar reflects a genuine recognition of the gravity of the flagrant assault on the sovereignty of this Arab country, the blatant violation of its territorial integrity, and the disparagement of its trusted role in humanitarian action, mediation, and peacebuilding, as well as in extinguishing the flames of conflicts and armed disputes in various regions, particularly in the Middle East—an endeavour that has firmly and deservedly established its international standing in the service of the principles of harmony and coexistence.
In this spirit, the State of Qatar, together with Egypt and the United States, has facilitated prisoner-exchange operations in conformity with the provisions of international humanitarian law. Qatari diplomacy has spared no effort, with great patience and perseverance, in carrying out this arduous mission amid the devastating consequences of a war that has led to the complete collapse of public infrastructure and essential services, and has caused the loss of thousands of martyrs, victims, and injured.
The Doha Summit stands as a message of solidarity to end Israeli aggression at a time when Arab and Islamic public opinion aspires for a firm response to this assault, within an encouraging international context marked by growing support during the 80th session of the United Nations General Assembly. The session is set to witness further recognitions of the State of Palestine, thereby reinforcing the momentum towards envisioning a political horizon for the Palestinian cause, based on the two-state solution, within a climate of peace, security, and stability.
