  • Palestine deposits its instrument of ratification of the Agreement on the Regulation of the Transport of Goods by Land Between Arab States

    ​The State of Palestine deposited with the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States on 14 July its instrument of ratification of the Agreement on the Regulation of the Transport of Goods by Land Between Arab States. The agreement was approved by the Economic and Social Council through Resolution 1916, Ordinary Session 89, dated 29 February 2012, and by the Council of the League of Arab States through Resolution 7551, Ordinary Session 138, dated 5 September 2012.

    The agreement seeks to promote the transport of goods among Arab states by facilitating land transport procedures and eliminating restrictions and obstacles. It also aims to harmonise the rules governing international road transport of goods between the contracting parties, particularly regarding transport documentation, carrier liability, protection of the rights of all parties involved, and the prompt resolution of disputes.

    The agreement is set to enter into force on 13 August 2025, thirty days after the deposit of ratification instruments by three Arab states, in accordance with Article 64, paragraph 1.

    To date, five Arab states have signed the agreement: the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, the Kingdom of Morocco, the Republic of Yemen, and the State of Palestine. It has been ratified by three of these: the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan, the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia, and the State of Palestine.

    The agreement was signed and the instrument of ratification deposited by His Excellency Ambassador Muhannad Abdul Karim Al-Aklouk, Permanent Representative of the State of Palestine to the League of Arab States. His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Mohamed El-Amin Ould Akik, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Legal Affairs Sector, signed on behalf of the League of Arab States. The signing ceremony was attended by Minister Plenipotentiary Dr. Sally Samir Sabry, Director of the Department of Treaties and International Law; Minister Plenipotentiary Bahgat Abu Al-Nasr, Director of the Department of Transport and Tourism; along with members of the Department of Treaties and the Department of Transport and Tourism.
