  • Aboul Gheit condemns extremist Israeli statements calling for annexation of the West Bank
    Date: 02/07/2025

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned recent statements by the Israeli Justice Minister calling for the annexation of the West Bank, exploiting the current situation, and described them as dangerous and irresponsible.

Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, quoted Mr. Aboul Gheit as saying that such statements by an official of the occupation government reflect alarming trends that are being closely monitored. He stressed that Israel is immersed in a perception of power that disregards international law and moral norms, warning that this arrogant approach will only perpetuate an endless cycle of violence.

Mr. Aboul Gheit reiterated that annexing the occupied West Bank is a longstanding goal of Israel’s far-right factions, and called on the international community to take a firm stand against this dangerous policy, which threatens to further inflame the region.

He also reaffirmed that the West Bank is recognised as occupied Palestinian territory under international law and United Nations resolutions, as well as the positions of countries worldwide. He described talk of annexation as political bullying and a blatant violation of international values and norms.
