    Date: 20/05/2025

Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, participated in the official opening of the Seamless Middle East 2025 Conference and Exhibition. The event, held in Dubai from 20 to 22 May, was convened under the patronage of His Highness Lieutenant General Sheikh Saif bin Zayed Al Nahyan, Deputy Prime Minister and Minister of Interior of the United Arab Emirates.

In his remarks during the opening session, the Secretary-General stressed the imperative of collective and coordinated efforts to address the multifaceted challenges confronting Arab economies. He highlighted the transformative impact of technological innovation across banking, e-commerce, and the broader financial sector, affirming the importance of harnessing the vast, and often underutilised, capacities and resources of Arab nations. Among the most pressing obstacles, he noted, is the disparity in digital infrastructure across the region, as well as the varying degrees of digital literacy and awareness among citizens regarding the use of modern technological tools.

Ambassador Gamal Roshdy, official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, conveyed that Mr. Aboul Gheit expressed his appreciation for the pioneering efforts of the United Arab Emirates and its steadfast support for the Arab Vision for the Digital Economy, as endorsed by Arab leaders. He further commended the UAE’s instrumental role in the launch of several groundbreaking initiatives and strategic frameworks, most notably the Arab Digital Agenda. The Secretary-General also praised the UAE's ongoing commitment to fostering a robust and forward-looking partnership with the League of Arab States in advancing digital transformation across the region.

Ambassador Roshdy added that the Secretary-General consistently seeks to support and sponsor such vital forums, which aim to align with the evolving demands of the digital age, empower Arab youth, invest in their capabilities, encourage a culture of meritocratic competition, and inspire excellence among this pivotal demographic. He described Seamless Middle East as one of the region’s premier platforms for addressing the future of the digital economy and technological advancement.

Ambassador Roshdy noted that the Secretary-General welcomed the proactive role of the Arab Federation for Digital Economy in adapting to ongoing global technological shifts. He highlighted the Federation’s recently launched strategic plan for the years 2025-2030, as well as its initiatives to establish cooperative frameworks with the People’s Republic of China in the fields of digital economy and technological innovation—initiatives that underscore a shared commitment to sustainable development and international collaboration.
