The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States welcomed the appointment of Dr. Kamil Idris as Prime Minister of the Republic of Sudan, viewing it as a significant and constructive step towards the restoration of national civil institutions and the reestablishment of constitutional governance.
An official source within the General Secretariat affirmed that the League will intensify its efforts to support all initiatives aimed at safeguarding Sudan’s sovereignty, unity, and territorial integrity. The League is also committed to mobilising greater international support to meet Sudan’s urgent development and humanitarian needs, to revive the stalled civil transition process, and to facilitate the launch of a comprehensive, Sudanese-led political dialogue that ensures the inclusive participation of all components of Sudanese civil society.
It is noteworthy that the League of Arab States, in cooperation with the United Nations and the African Union, convened a high-level meeting on the sidelines of the Arab Summit held in Baghdad on 16 May. This meeting—attended by the heads of the three organisations—marked the first coordinated engagement of its kind since the outbreak of the Sudanese crisis. It was convened with the aim of fostering joint efforts to resolve the crisis and address its multifaceted humanitarian, political, and security repercussions.
