Countries around the world celebrate World Meteorological Day annually on 23 March, marking the anniversary of the founding of the World Meteorological Organisation. The day brings greater attention to the pivotal role meteorology plays in protecting lives and property, enhancing resilience to climate change, and ensuring the sustainability of natural resources.
The theme for World Meteorological Day 2025 is "Bridging the Gap in Early Warning Systems." Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Economic Affairs Sector, stated the importance of science and technological innovation in improving the accuracy of weather forecasts and early warning systems, and their essential role in combating natural disasters such as drought, floods, and hurricanes.
On this occasion, the League of Arab States affirms its commitment to continuing efforts to enable Arab countries to develop monitoring and forecasting systems, raise awareness of the importance of meteorology in our daily lives and its role in achieving sustainable development, and enhance weather and climate information management systems, strengthening international cooperation to address growing climate challenges. Investing in advanced meteorological systems and joint scientific cooperation is the best path to a safe and sustainable future for future generations.
