The Economic Affairs Sector of the League of Arab States, in collaboration with the Regional Centre for Renewable Energy and Energy Efficiency (RECREE), the Gulf Organisation for Research and Development (GORD), and the Global Carbon Footprint Council, convened a specialised workshop on 24 February to explore strategies for mitigating climate change through transformation in the energy sector.
The workshop addressed two key themes. The first focused on the role of the Global Carbon Footprint Council in providing technical support to the member states of the League of Arab States, highlighting models of voluntary carbon markets as a mechanism to stimulate and enhance climate finance at the global level, particularly in the Middle East and North Africa region. The second theme examined approaches and tools for decarbonisation in the construction sector, asserting their role in facilitating the transition to low-carbon buildings through improved systems and innovative design methodologies.
His Excellency Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, head of the Economic Affairs Sector, underscored that the workshop aligns with the League of Arab States' commitment to advancing carbon markets as a pivotal tool for climate change mitigation, while also reinforcing the integration between carbon market mechanisms and the construction sector across the region.
