In line with the recommendations of the 18th ordinary session of the Executive Office of the Council of Arab Information Ministers, held in Libya on 24 December 2023 in the attendance of His Excellency Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Media and Communication Sector, concerning the promotion of quality and professionalism in media and the enhancement of capabilities among Arab media professionals, the Technical Secretariat of the Council of Arab Information Ministers is convening a meeting of the Arab Media Excellence Award jury.
The meeting, scheduled for 22-24 April 2024, at the League headquarters in Cairo, will be conducted under the leadership of Kuwait, the sponsoring country of the award, with participation from representatives of member states including Bahrain, Djibouti, Saudi Arabia, Syria, Sudan, Iraq, Somalia, Egypt, and Morocco.
The session will be themed "Communicating Crises, Disasters, and Risks," reflecting the recent crises and disasters witnessed in the Arab region, notably the Israeli aggression on the Gaza Strip and the resulting humanitarian challenges.
The General Secretariat has received nearly 100 submissions across various award categories, encompassing television, radio, journalism, and digital media.
The objective of this award is to spotlight outstanding media initiatives in the Arab world and to acknowledge and support their invaluable contributions to the media landscape, particularly their constructive role in highlighting issues of importance to the Arab community.
During the meeting, committee members will review the nominations submitted by member states, assess their alignment with the award's criteria, and select the most deserving recipients. The winners' names will be unveiled during the 54th session of the Council of Arab Ministers of Information.
