  • Third Arab Regional Conference on the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights under the title "Impact of Occupation and Armed Conflict on Human Rights, Especially the Rights of Women and Children"

    The League of Arab States, in cooperation with the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (OHCHR), held the Third Arab Regional Conference on the Protection and Promotion of Human Rights under the title "The Impact of Occupation and Armed Conflict on Human Rights, Especially the Rights of Women and Children". The headquarters of the General Secretariat in Cairo.

    The organization of the conference comes within the framework of the follow-up to the implementation of the contents of the memorandum of intent signed on 12 April 2002 in Geneva between the Office of the United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights and the League of Arab States, and on the basis of the outcomes of the Eleventh General Meeting between the United Nations and the League of Arab States (Vienna 2012), which concluded the organization of a regional conference High-level biennial in human rights.

    The conference, which was held under the auspices of His Excellency the Secretary General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, was attended by Arab and international personalities representing the member states of the League, Arab specialized organizations and committees, national human rights institutions, civil society organizations, and relevant UN agencies and bodies. , As well as specialists from academics, jurists and researchers.

    The two-day conference discussed international and regional frameworks for the protection of women and children, the impact of the occupation on the lives of women and children, the impact of armed conflict on vulnerable groups, and ways to encourage victims' access to justice.

    Participants were divided into four working groups that drafted recommendations on ways to implement international standards for the protection of human rights in Palestine in accordance with the Geneva Conventions, ways to mitigate the impact of conflicts on fragile groups, and ways to enhance the legal protection of fragile groups at the national level, as well as recommendations for a phase. After the conflict.

    The conference was opened by HE Ambassador Dr. Haifa Abu-Ghazaleh, Assistant Secretary-General and Head of the Social Affairs Sector Representing His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, HE Ms. Michelle Bachelet, United Nations High Commissioner for Human Rights (via recorded message), and HE Mr. Mohamed Askar, Minister of Human Rights of the Republic His Excellency Mr. Francesco Motta, Head of the Asia-Pacific, Middle East and North Africa Division of the Office of the High Commissioner for Human Rights, said:

The first of these rights is about life itself. These conflicts have been accompanied by violations - unprecedented in scope, unity and brutality - of the most basic human rights to safe living.
