The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States is holding a central event at its headquarters on 30 November to commemorate the International Day of Solidarity with the Palestinian People. The event is held in response to the 1977 United Nations General Assembly resolution designating this day for annual observance.
The day reaffirms the justice of the Palestinian cause and expresses solidarity with the Palestinian people in their legitimate and just struggle to end the occupation, achieve freedom and independence, and establish their sovereign and independent state with East Jerusalem as its capital, in accordance with relevant international resolutions and the Arab Peace Initiative.
The event features speeches expressing solidarity with the Palestinian people by representatives of the League of Arab States, the United Nations, the Arab Republic of Egypt, the State of Palestine, Al-Azhar, and the Coptic Orthodox Church.
It also includes the screening of a short film produced by the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States (Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector), addressing the decades-long suffering of the Palestinian people, including ethnic cleansing, forced displacement, and the denial of their right to self-determination under the ongoing Israeli occupation. The film also acknowledges the role of people worldwide who stand in solidarity with the Palestinian people and their legitimate rights, and their commitment to the values of humanity, justice, and respect for human rights.
In addition, several institutions are being honoured for their efforts in supporting and providing relief to the Palestinian people, and some segments of Palestinian society will be recognised for their resilience and sacrifices.
A visual arts and photography exhibition on the Palestinian cause will be held on the sidelines of the event, in cooperation with the Permanent Mission of the State of Palestine to the League of Arab States.
The event is being attended by permanent representatives to the League of Arab States, members of foreign diplomatic missions accredited to the Arab Republic of Egypt, representatives of Arab and international organisations, and a number of public figures.
