The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, received Mr. Walid Al-Lafi, Minister of State for Communication and Political Affairs of Libya, at the League’s headquarters on 26 November.
Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, stated that the meeting reviewed recent developments in Libya and the challenges confronting the political process. The Secretary-General underscored the need for all Libyan stakeholders to move toward consensus, unify national institutions, and proceed with holding elections in order to safeguard the interests of the Libyan people.
During the meeting, the Secretary-General reaffirmed the League’s commitment to its core responsibilities towards Libya and its continued readiness to support the Libyan people in identifying appropriate solutions within the framework of a Libyan-owned and Libyan-led political process.
