A delegation from the General Secretariat (Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector) participated in the coordination meeting between the Arab host countries and the League of Arab States, held on 18 November 2025 in advance of the meetings of the UNRWA Advisory Commission. The delegation was headed by Ambassador Dr. Faed Mustafa, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Palestine and Occupied Arab Territories Sector, and included Mr. Amr Abdel Moneim, the official responsible for the UNRWA file.
During the meeting, participants reviewed the principal items on the Advisory Commission's agenda, foremost among them UNRWA's financial situation, asserting the imperative of mobilising financial support to address the deficit.
They voiced their rejection of any reduction in services provided to refugees, given the serious humanitarian and social repercussions such measures would entail for the refugee community. They further stressed the need to renew UNRWA's mandate by the UN General Assembly without amendment or reduction, as this would reaffirm the international community's commitment to the Palestinian refugee question and their right of return in accordance with Resolution 194.
The participants also affirmed the importance of sustaining both political and financial support for UNRWA, particularly in light of the unprecedented challenges it faces, whether in terms of funding or in attempts to undermine its role through the politicisation of its work and the erosion of its legitimacy.
