The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States is organising a high-level workshop titled "Cultural Diplomacy in an Era of Change: Challenges and Opportunities in Light of Global Transformations," on 10 November at the headquarters of the General Secretariat.
The workshop brings together distinguished members of the Permanent Missions accredited to the League of Arab States, as well as a select group of experts and academics specialising in diplomatic and cultural affairs.
The workshop reflects the growing interest in the role of soft power in shaping foreign policy and underscores the recognition of culture as a fundamental pillar of shared security and international understanding.
The event is inaugurated by His Excellency Ambassador Mohamed El-Orabi, former Minister of Foreign Affairs, highlighting the strategic importance Arab states attach to leveraging their cultural and creative heritage.
The workshop addresses key themes focusing on the theoretical and conceptual foundations of cultural diplomacy. It explores the concept in its modern dimension as a tool for achieving national objectives and building bridges of trust and mutual understanding. Valuable contributions are presented, including discussions on the role of culture in international organisations and the issue of dialogue among civilisations. Dr. Rania Abdel Latif offers in-depth insights into these themes, analysing the concept and its contemporary interpretations, and addressing the challenges of the current global context and their impact on the tools of cultural representation.
Participants are also discussing the major challenges posed by global political, economic, and technological changes to the mechanisms of cultural representation. In addition, they review the essential qualifications required of diplomatic and cultural representatives to communicate effectively and efficiently amid these transformations, stressing the importance of investing in the intangible dimensions of power and utilising cultural heritage as an indispensable tool to enhance the international standing of Arab states.
