In line with the General Secretariat's commitment—through the Social Affairs Sector, Department of Culture and Dialogue of Civilisations—to promoting Arab culture, identity, and the Arabic language as a core element of both, the Department organised the September session of the League of Arab States' Cultural Salon under the theme "Language and Identity in the Light of Artificial Intelligence." The event was held on 30 September at the General Secretariat headquarters.
The Salon sought to provide a platform for dialogue and the exchange of views on artificial intelligence, cultural and linguistic identity, and opportunities to advance and disseminate Arab culture through new channels. It further addressed the relationship between technology and humanity, the intersection between artificial intelligence and the promotion of cultural identity, the opportunities and challenges posed by technological development, and the protection of linguistic and cultural diversity in the digital age.
The Salon was inaugurated by Counsellor Youssef Badr Mishari, Director of the Department of Culture and Dialogue of Civilisations, and centred on three themes: the Arabic language, artificial intelligence, and its impact on Arabic writing and creativity; cultural identity in the face of artificial intelligence; and literature and writing in the era of artificial intelligence.
These topics were presented by His Excellency Dr. Essam Sharaf, former prime minister of the Arab Republic of Egypt, and His Excellency Dr. Alaa Abdel Hadi, Secretary-General of the Arab Writers Union. The event was attended by specialised representatives of Arab countries, delegations of Arab Member States, academics and experts in the field, relevant regional and international organisations, and civil society organisations.
