  • Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi visits headquarters of Akhbar Al-Youm newspaper

    ​Ambassador Ahmed Rashid Khattabi, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Media and Communications Sector at the League of Arab States, paid a visit to the headquarters of Akhbar Al-Youm Foundation and Newspaper, where he was received by journalist Mahmoud Bassiouni, Editor-in-Chief, together with a number of the paper's senior journalists.

    During the meeting, Ambassador Khattabi underscored the importance of the ongoing cooperation between the League of Arab States and Akhbar Al-Youm, commending the prominent role played by the prominent newspaper in following up on the League's activities and providing professional and expert coverage of its news, specialised councils, and various committees. He expressed his sincere gratitude to the newspaper's staff, lauding what he described as "responsible media efforts that embody both a national and pan-Arab commitment to supporting joint Arab action."

    The Ambassador further noted that the Council of Arab Information Ministers, at its forthcoming session in Baghdad, will deliberate an important media initiative reflecting the aspirations of modern Arab media to enhance its role in shaping Arab individuals and safeguarding them against the culture of extremism and misinformation. He explained that this project will be advanced through the incorporation of media education into school curricula, within carefully designed plans and strategies attuned to the new challenges of the contemporary communication and information landscape.

    Bassiouni welcomed the Ambassador's visit, commending his considerable efforts in supporting the League's activities and his constant commitment to effective engagement with the media through the prompt provision of information and the establishment of direct channels with newspapers to ensure transparent coverage of the League's work.

    The Editor-in-Chief affirmed that Akhbar Al-Youm remains deeply committed to the mission of responsible Arab media and fully supports all initiatives aimed at promoting media and cultural awareness across the Arab world. He highlighted the effective cooperation between the League and the newspaper in contributing to the "Media Education" project, underscoring its vital importance in protecting younger generations from the dangers of media misinformation and unprofessional content.

    The meeting concluded with agreement on the importance of strengthening the partnership between the League of Arab States and leading Arab press institutions, as well as the need for sustained dialogue and coordination to advance a unified, enlightening, and responsible Arab media.
