Arab countries celebrate Arab Meteorology Day on 15 September each year, marking the anniversary of the establishment of the Permanent Arab Meteorological Committee. The occasion sheds light on the vital role of Arab meteorological agencies and institutions in protecting lives and property in the face of accelerating climate change, while supporting sustainable development plans for future generations.
Arab Meteorology Day 2025 is observed under the theme "Meteorology: For Human Safety and Sustainable Space." Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Economic Affairs Sector at the League of Arab States, highlighted the importance of modern technology, innovation, training, and both intra-Arab and international cooperation in enhancing the accuracy of weather forecasts and early warning systems. He further stressed their essential role in mitigating and responding to natural disasters such as floods and hurricanes, thereby safeguarding people, property, and space.
The League of Arab States reaffirms its commitment to supporting Arab countries in developing monitoring and forecasting systems, strengthening data, and raising awareness of the importance of meteorology in daily life through the regular meetings of the Permanent Committee of Meteorology, which is dedicated to advancing these objectives.
