  • General Secretariat participates in Third International Expo on Global Supply Chain Development
    Date: 16/07/2025

A delegation from the General Secretariat, headed by Ambassador Ahmed Mustafa Fahmy, head of the League of Arab States' Mission in Beijing, and Mr. Ahmed Shaaban, head of the Arab-Chinese Economic Cooperation Department at the Department of Economic Relations/Economic Affairs Sector, participated in the Third International Expo on Global Supply Chain Development. The event is held at the Shunyi Pavilion of the Beijing International Exhibition Centre in Beijing, China, from 16 to 20 July.

Organised under the theme "Connecting the World and Creating the Future Together," the Expo is convened by the China Council for the Promotion of International Trade (CCPIT) and the China International Exhibition Centre Group Limited, with the support of several international organisations, including the United Nations Conference on Trade and Development (UNCTAD), the United Nations Industrial Development Organisation (UNIDO), the World Intellectual Property Organisation (WIPO), the International Trade Centre (ITC), and the International Chamber of Commerce (ICC).

The exhibition, regarded as one of China's most significant international events, is part of the China-Arab Cooperation Forum's activities aimed at promoting global openness. It is the world's first national-level exhibition hosted in China focused exclusively on supply chains, with the objective of accelerating the development of a new economic model and advancing the establishment of an open global economy. The General Secretariat—represented by the Economic Affairs Sector and the League Mission in Beijing—participated in the two previous editions of the Expo in 2023 and 2024.

The Expo seeks to connect business sectors at all levels, bringing together large enterprises, SMEs, and stakeholders from industry, academia, research, and application. It fosters collaboration between Chinese and international companies and serves four primary pillars: promoting trade, enhancing investment cooperation, pooling innovation, and encouraging exchange and learning. It aims to provide a new window for promoting high-level openness and a platform for advancing a new development model, supporting the construction of an open global economy, and exemplifying the vision of building a shared future for humanity. The Expo also focuses on deepening economic and trade cooperation, as well as facilitating interaction and collaboration between domestic and international enterprises.

Ambassador Dr. Ali bin Ibrahim Al-Maliki, Assistant Secretary-General and head of the Economic Affairs Sector, noted that the Expo provides a key platform for advancing international cooperation in securing supply chains and facilitating global trade across various sectors—especially the digital economy and communications, transportation and logistics, and modern agriculture. His Excellency said that the exhibition offers a major opportunity for both public and private sectors around the world to strengthen economic, trade, and investment ties, while leveraging China's "Belt and Road Initiative" and "Global Development Initiative" to drive sustainable economic development and foster greater people-to-people connectivity and mutual benefit.

Approximately 500 Chinese and international companies are taking part in the Expo. The opening ceremony witnessed the participation of several heads of specialised United Nations agencies, along with representatives of foreign embassies and business associations in China, as well as Chinese and international companies and industry experts from around the world.

The General Secretariat of the League of Arab States is participating with a dedicated pavilion in the exhibition area, showcasing key recent activities of the League. The pavilion features documentary films highlighting major milestones in the path of joint Arab action, presented in partnership with a number of Arab countries and their embassies in China, as well as several specialised Arab organisations. Other exhibition areas include smart mobility solutions, green agriculture, clean energy, digital technologies, healthy living, and modern logistics and supply chain services.
