    Date: 26/06/2025

The Arab Fund for Technical Assistance to African Countries (AFTA) of the League of Arab States concluded a training course on irrigation in Medenine, Tunisia, on 26 June. The course was organised in cooperation with the African Union and the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation (ATC). It was held at the Institute of Arid Zones in Medenine and targeted irrigation engineers from Francophone African countries, focusing on the optimal use of water resources. The course ran from 16 to 26 June.

The AFTA participated in the closing ceremony, which was attended by the head of the Office of Cereals and Arid Zones, representing the African Union, the Director-General of the Tunisian Agency for Technical Cooperation, a member of AFTA's Board of Directors, and the Director-General of the Institute of Arid Zones in Medenine.

The Fund's representative delivered a speech in which he thanked the attendees and welcomed the participating African irrigation engineers. He also conveyed the greetings of His Excellency Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, and wished them success. He affirmed his interest in and continued support for African professionals in various fields, highlighting the strength and significance of Arab-African relations.

The participants expressed appreciation for the ongoing cooperation with the Fund and acknowledged the important role played by the League of Arab States, through AFTA, in promoting Arab-African technical collaboration and advancing joint efforts for the benefit of African irrigation engineers.

Following the distribution of certificates, the Fund's representative, on behalf of the Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, presented the Director-General of the Institute with the AFTA shield as a token of appreciation—particularly meaningful in this year marking the Institute's 50th anniversary.
