Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, condemned the Iranian attack on a US base in Qatar, describing it as a wholly unacceptable violation of Qatari sovereignty.
Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, quoted Mr. Aboul Gheit as reaffirming the League’s full solidarity with the State of Qatar in the face of this Iranian breach of international law.
The Secretary-General urged immediate efforts to de-escalate the situation and avoid an unintended escalation of the conflict, warning of the grave consequences such a development could entail. He underscored the right of Arab states to defend and uphold their sovereignty against any form of external aggression.
