Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received General Joseph Aoun, President of the Lebanese Republic, during his first visit to the headquarters of the League since assuming the presidency.
Gamal Roshdy, Spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit welcomed President Aoun to the House of Arabs and provided an overview of the key outcomes of the recent Arab Summit held in Baghdad. Prominently highlighted was the resolution to establish the Arab Fund to support recovery and reconstruction in Arab states affected by crises. In this regard, the Government of the Republic of Iraq announced a generous contribution of US $40 million, of which US $20 million has been designated to support reconstruction efforts in the Lebanese Republic.
The Secretary-General extended his congratulations to President Aoun on his recent Arab tour, noting that these visits reflect a sense of renewal in Lebanon’s engagement with its Arab environment and signal the beginning of a promising new chapter in the country’s regional relations.
The spokesperson further noted that the Secretary-General reaffirmed the League of Arab States’ unwavering commitment and full readiness to continue its support for Lebanon through all phases of its national journey. This includes efforts aimed at reinforcing the sovereignty of the Lebanese state, preserving civil peace, and promoting recovery, development, and prosperity for the Lebanese people.
