Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, welcomed the appointment of Mr. Hussein Al-Sheikh as Vice Chairman of the Executive Committee of the Palestine Liberation Organisation and Vice President of the State of Palestine.
Gamal Roshdy, the Secretary-General’s official spokesperson, stated that this appointment represents a step within the framework of the reform process announced by President Mahmoud Abbas at the Emergency Arab Summit held in March.
He affirmed the League of Arab States' support for the Palestinian Authority’s reform efforts, noting that such reforms strengthen the Palestinian position internationally and undermine the pretexts used to delay the implementation of peace and settlement requirements.
