Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, received a phone call on 8 March from Kaja Kallas, the European Union’s High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy. During the call, she conveyed a message addressed to the Council of the League of Arab States, which convened on the same day at the ministerial level in an extraordinary session via videoconference to discuss the Iranian attacks on the sovereignty and territorial integrity of a number of Arab states.
Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, said that the message from the senior European official conveyed strong and unequivocal condemnation of the Iranian attacks on several Arab countries, as well as full solidarity with the states that have been subjected to these unjustified assaults.
Rushdi added that Kallas’ message also stressed the importance of diplomatic solutions and referred to the European Union’s efforts to press the US and Israel to exercise restraint.
