  • International determination to end racist settler occupation: League Secretary-General at International Conference on Peaceful Settlement of Question of Palestine
    Date: 29/07/2025

The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, participated in the High-Level International Conference on the Peaceful Settlement of the Question of Palestine and the Implementation of the Two-State Solution, held from 28 to 30 July in New York. Mr. Aboul Gheit delivered a speech before the General Assembly, beginning by expressing his gratitude to the Kingdom of Saudi Arabia and the Republic of France for their sincere and earnest efforts in convening this important conference.

Gamal Roshdy, the official spokesperson for the Secretary-General, stated that Mr. Aboul Gheit condemned Israel’s ongoing commission of the crime of genocide against civilians, women, and children in the Gaza Strip. He noted that this atrocity stems from a broader, continuing crime: the Israeli occupation and settlement of Palestinian territories. Mr. Aboul Gheit stressed that Israel cannot achieve normalisation or peaceful coexistence with its neighbours without ending the occupation and reaching a just peace with the Palestinians.

The spokesperson added that Mr. Aboul Gheit stated in his speech that the broad participation in the conference reflects the strength of international will to end the Israeli occupation and establish a sovereign Palestinian state. He reaffirmed the League of Arab States' firm commitment to the vision of the Arab Peace Initiative, which, after 23 years, has demonstrated that lasting regional peace and coexistence can only be achieved by ending the Israeli occupation and settlements on Palestinian land along the 1967 borders, including East Jerusalem.
