  • Aboul Gheit participates in launching the Arab strategic framework for poverty eradication

    Mr. Ahmed Aboul Gheit, Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, addressed the session on the sidelines of the high-level segment of the 74th session of the United Nations General Assembly devoted to launching the Strategic Framework for the Eradication of Multidimensional Poverty. The Strategic Framework for Poverty Eradication in the Next Decade 2020-2030, stressing that poverty is a global challenge and not only a problem facing the Arab world.

    Aboul Gheit addressed the political developments that confronted the Arab region during the past decade, pointing out that these negative developments have placed burdens and pressures on development efforts, which reflected negatively and directly on the living standards of the Arab citizen, especially with the consequences of these crises of large flows in the number of Arab refugees, which are considered to be the highest in the world since the Second World War.

    Aboul Gheit added that the Arab League has prepared this strategic framework in cooperation with the Council of Arab Ministers of Social Affairs to serve as a guiding framework for Arab countries in preparing their policies and programs to eradicate poverty in all its dimensions, forming the first regional framework in the world to be adopted at the level of leaders in this area since the launch of the 2030 Agenda.​
