  • Aboul Gheit holds consultations in New York on developing Arab-African partnership

    On Monday, Aboul Gheit met with Moussa Faki, chairman of the African Union Commission, on the sidelines of his participation in the high-level segment of the United Nations General Assembly currently held in New York.

    An official source at the General Secretariat of the League said that Aboul Gheit and Faki discussed all aspects of cooperation between the League and the African Union, especially in the field of peace and security and on the common issues of priority for both sides, headed by cessation of fighting around Tripoli and restoring stability to Libya, supporting Sudan to enable it to meet the challenges of the transitional period, and supporting Somalia and its federal government in all that asserts security and stability and drives the development of the country.

    The source added that Aboul Gheit and the chairman of the Commission reviewed the ongoing preparations for the upcoming Arab-African summit to be held in Riyadh next November, and the various programs and activities of cooperation within the framework of the Arab-African partnership, which will be submitted to Arab and African leaders for deliberation and approval.

    Aboul Gheit and Moussa Faki later participated in the ministerial meeting of the Arab-African Partnership Coordination Committee, chaired by Tunisia in its capacity as current Chairman of the Arab Summit, and Egypt as the current Chairman of the African Union. The meeting reviewed all aspects of the strategic relationship between the Arab world and the African continent and ways of developing them in all fields of common interest to both sides.
