  • Aboul Gheit condemns the terrorist bombing in Benghazi, and calls on Libyan parties to respect the humanitarian truce

    The Secretary-General of the League of Arab States, Ahmed Aboul Gheit, strongly condemned the terrorist bombing that took place in Al-Hawari area west of the Libyan city of Benghazi on Saturday, killing three UN staff members and injuring others.

     An official source at the General Secretariat of the League of Arab States expressed grief and condolences to the families of the victims and wished him a speedy recovery. The source also reiterated the Secretary-General's call for all Libyan parties to respect the humanitarian truce during Eid al-Adha, which was called by Mr. Ghassan Salameh, Special Representative of the Secretary-General of the United Nations in his recent briefing to the Security Council, and work to stabilize this truce to reach a permanent cease-fire, and to resume the political track, which is the only way to reach a sustainable solution to the crisis in Libya.

    The source reiterated the Arab League's stand with the Libyan brothers in all that would end the military escalation, overcome the state of political blockage, return to the table of dialogue, and preserve Libya's unity, sovereignty and the cohesion of its people.
